A quick post to note that FMS 4.5.2 has been released. You can grab that here.
Release notes on it are here. Although I don’t think it’s even worth clicking that link as there is practically nothing in it worth reading. In fact, here is the only tidbit:
This release includes support for HTTP Streaming failover scenarios to offer robust playback, in
the face of server-side streaming problems.
Unlike Wowza’s release notes for their last update which took up over a page of new and fixed items, the FMS release notes has 2 pages of “these are known issues”.
What the?? It’s of no wonder to me why 9 out of 10 clients of ours are using Wowza Media Server. The 1 out of 10 clients are sitting there wondering if they are using the right platform. Actually.. as far as I can tell, it’s the p2p functionality that is keeping them there. If Wowza ever got into that part I would guess that would be the end of demand for FMS other than from major CDNs which is what has always been the main target for Adobe anyways regarding FMS.
Anyways, there you are. There’s an update that fixes one thing. In 5 months.

Hi Graeme, thanks for the heads up, it is indeed a bit hard to find – but nevertheless, a pretty important update

Hi Jens
Thanks for posting that link. It does seem important for one aspect of the server. I don’t see the “numerous bug fixes” though. I only saw one in the release notes. I now understand the significance of the update but I have to admit that it’s pretty underwhelming in comparison to Wowza. I’m sure it’s a very important feature to some though and I’ll remember that when talking to new clients.
