We’ve got an app in the review process for the Playbook currently and it was built with Flash CS5. Brave.. I know, but we had some stuff that we wanted to do that required more animation etc than I was willing to figure out in Flash Builder.
Anyways, the app worked and we sent it off and all that. It of course sat in review for a couple of months… then got rejected due to not being signed (of course, couldn’t sign apps way back then). So.. signed it and sent it off, that was 3 weeks ago. No sign of life since then even with repeated emails to them. Such as it is I guess, the Xoom is looking mighty tempting right about now after this..
On to the subject of the post though. I’m positive they’re going to come back with a “it’s not built with the latest SDK”, so I want get a new version done but couldn’t get it to work like before. With a bit of searching I came up with this post: http://www.44actions.com/?p=298 which points to this guy: http://chrisaiv.com/post/4187704195/developing-for-blackberry-playbook-using-flash-cs5 (although the site doesn’t seem to be working properly due to “too much traffic” or something, hence the previous link, that site works). Seems like good info and I thought I’d pass it forward. I have yet to give it a try to get this app back up off the ground but when I find a moment I’ll be sure to get on it and report back.

Either way though, with the completely crappy response from RIM for the last 3 months, I’m seriously considering just giving up. It was worth the try I guess but this is worse than the iOS experience. At least they give a response in a reasonable amount of time. 2 months to review an app? 3 weeks to review an update and all I did was sign it?? come on.. RIM, you’ve got a very cool device, I tried it at the store the other day, but this process of developing apps for it blows goats. Seriously.
OK.. off my soapbox 🙂 If anything comes of it and we move forward with Playbook stuff I’ll definitely be posting about it. I look forward to it but don’t picture it happening as I’m about one paycheck away from going to buy a Xoom and hopping on to the Android bandwagon ASAP.
