Now this is an old project that I’ve had stuck in the cobwebs for such a long time I almost forgot about it until I saw a picture fade by on my screensaver that goes through all pics in iPhoto. It reminded me that I keep meaning to get this project back out of the closet and converted over to AS3 and hopefully on to a brighter future.
I think I put this together a good 5 years ago just for fun to see if it could be done. It was one of those things that you do in your spare time to practice some techniques. A couple of techniques here were some server side coding stuff and then the animation of the coffee cup. With that it was a bit of a social experiment because the more people that connect up at the same time, the more coffees show up. Essentially going on the idea of producing an atmosphere that a lot of people can connect to, a coffee shop. In a nutshell, it’s a live app that connects up to Flash Media Server and shows how many people are connected to it at the same time.
To test and see more than one coffee, in the case you only see on there, just open up another tab with this blog entry and another coffee cup should show up. Simple. There’s actually a lot to learn from such a simple app so I think I’ll put together a tutorial on it in the near future. Should be interesting.
Anyways, just thought I’d post this up finally instead of it just sitting in the cobwebs. Just another small app converted over from AS2 to AS3 making it more robust with better extensibility. This one didn’t take as long as the last one, that’s for sure, but it does help remind me again of what it does take to rebuild a previously built app from scratch and yet not from scratch. Lots can be built on to this, like maybe having a car come and park in a parking lot, then leave when the user disconnects. Or a really big couch and a character can come sit down.. or whatever. The ideas are endless.
